Hidden Gems in Bothell, WA: 8 Local Spots Worth Discovering
Sometimes the places that make you love where you live aren't the big attractions.
They're the wooded trail you can sneak away to after work. The park where Saturday afternoon disappears. A bike ride along the river. A little piece of local history you’ve driven past a hundred times without noticing.
That's part of the charm of Bothell, Washington.
Tucked between Seattle, the Eastside and Woodinville, Bothell offers plenty of access to the places people need to go—but some of its best features are the ones that make you want to stay close to home.
Here are eight Bothell spots worth discovering.
1. Park at Bothell Landing: Where the City Meets the River
Let's start with one that's not exactly a secret to locals—but it's too quintessentially Bothell to leave off the list.
The Park at Bothell Landing sits along the Sammamish River just steps from downtown. Historic buildings, a pedestrian bridge, playground, amphitheater and walking trails make it much more than your average neighborhood park. It's also home to the Bothell Historical Museum and connects directly to the Burke-Gilman and Sammamish River trails.
It's the kind of place where you can take a quick walk by the river and somehow end up spending half the afternoon.
Local-life idea: Start with coffee downtown, walk through the park and keep going along the river trail.
2. North Creek Park: Take a Walk on the Wild Side
Want to feel like you've escaped the city without actually going very far?
North Creek Park offers an easy escape into nature through a wetland environment. The boardwalk experience makes this a particularly fun spot for a quiet walk, birdwatching or an outing with the kids.
The surrounding North Creek trail system winds through wetlands and wooded areas, creating one of those wonderfully Pacific Northwest experiences where civilization suddenly feels much farther away than it really is.
Bring your walking shoes—and keep your eyes open for wildlife.
3. Blyth Park: The Picnic Spot That Keeps Going
At first glance, Blyth Park looks like a great place for a picnic. And it is.
But keep exploring.
Bothell's oldest parkland offers green space, picnic shelters, a playground and access to several trails, including connections to the Burke-Gilman and Sammamish River trail system. Before becoming a park, the property was even home to a brick factory.
It's an easy choice when one person wants a walk, someone else wants to play, and everybody eventually wants lunch.
4. Shelton View Forest: A Forest Hiding in the Neighborhood
This one really does feel like a hidden gem.
Enter Shelton View Forest - 7th Ave. W. Trailhead from a residential street and suddenly you're surrounded by trees, dirt trails and that unmistakable Pacific Northwest forest feeling.
It's less polished than a traditional city park—and that's part of its appeal. This is a place for wandering, exploring and enjoying a little quiet beneath the trees.
If your idea of a great neighborhood amenity is being able to disappear into the woods for an hour without planning a day trip, put this one on your list.
5. Red Brick Road Park: A Tiny Piece of Bothell History
Sometimes a hidden gem really is small.
Red Brick Road Park preserves a piece of the red brick road that opened in 1914 and once connected Seattle and Bothell. Today you'll find interpretive signage, a picnic table and access from the Burke-Gilman Trail.
It's not a destination that will fill your entire Saturday.
But it's exactly the kind of quirky local detail that gives a community its personality.
6. Sammamish River Trail: Bothell's Back Door to Adventure
One of Bothell's best amenities isn't confined to Bothell at all.
Sammamish River Trail runs 10.1 paved miles from Bothell to Marymoor Park in Redmond, with views of the river, Sammamish River Valley and Cascade foothills along the way. It also connects with the Burke-Gilman Trail, opening up an even larger network for walking and biking.
Head one direction toward Woodinville and Redmond. Connect the other way toward Seattle.
Or forget about the destination entirely and simply enjoy the ride.
For people who love having outdoor recreation practically outside their front door, this is a pretty terrific backyard.
7. North Creek Forest: When You Want the Woods Without the Road Trip
There's a difference between a park with trees and an actual forest.
North Creek Forest gives you the latter.
This preserved urban forest is intentionally less developed, with informal trails, ravines, creeks and plenty of tree cover. It isn't the place to expect perfectly groomed paths and lots of amenities.
That's precisely why people like it.
On a gray Bothell morning—which, let's face it, has a charm all its own—this is about as Pacific Northwest as it gets.
8. Downtown Bothell: Sometimes the Gem Is the Whole Neighborhood
After all those trails, you deserve coffee.
Downtown Bothell has evolved into the kind of place where you can park the car and spend some time wandering. Main Street offers local shops and places to stop for coffee or a bite, while nearby trails and Park at Bothell Landing make it easy to combine downtown time with the outdoors.
And that's really what makes this area interesting.
You don't necessarily have to choose between walkable and woodsy.
In Bothell, you can have a little of both.
Maybe Bothell's Best-Kept Secret Is Bothell Itself
Bothell isn't trying to be Seattle. It isn't quite the Eastside, either. And despite being next door to Woodinville, it has a personality all its own.
The City of Bothell maintains 26 parks and approximately 400 acres of parkland and open space, with regional trails running right through the community.
But statistics aren't really what make a place feel like home.
It's having somewhere beautiful to walk the dog. A trail for your Saturday bike ride. A downtown where you can grab coffee and wander. A park where the kids can play. Or a patch of forest that makes you forget for a few minutes how close you are to everything else.
Those little things become the big things when you're deciding where you want to live.
